Purpose:
This dataset serves mainly as a catalog or reference tool for the Huron-Perth Administrative Area's fisheries filing system. Users can review a geographic area using this dataset, identify records they have interest in, then retrieve the corresponding hardcopy files from the filing system using the 'File Name' attribute. The catalog is used 1) to determine the presence and nature of fisheries and/or fish habitat data for a particular area, and 2) to retrieve the original data items (e.g. consultant's report, field data record, etc.) flagged in the catalog. Data are typically used by consultants during the preparation of an EIS to support development, and by agencies and their partners to assign waterbody classifications and to plan rehabilitation efforts. The dataset makes it easier to determine what information is available for a particular waterbody. When the MNR and other agencies require specific fisheries information for waterbodies in the Clinton Area (Huron and Perth counties), this dataset will help find out what information is available.

Supplemental Information:
All of the paper copies of the fisheries-related data that is on file at the Clinton MNR office is referenced in the fisheries database. The information in the database dates back to as early as 1910 and is as recent as the present day. All geographic locations within Huron and Perth counties that contain fisheries data are assigned a point on a map. The data can either refer specifically to a particular sample location within a waterbody, or it is general data for the waterbody that does not include a specific sample location. The data in the database references information and it is placed into one of the following categories: aquatic habitat assessments, barriers to fish migration, benthic invertebrate inventories, creel surveys, fishing derby results, fish biomass calculations, fish contaminant data, fluvial geomorphological data, fish inventories, fish kills, fish population estimates, fish stocking, fishways, hydrogeological data, nursery areas, rehabilitation, stream discharge, spawning surveys, water temperature, and water quality data.
